The top 7 trends for childrens rooms in 2023

Well Hello! thanks for making it to our FIRST EVER blog post. We hope we dont put you to sleep and if we do.. well you can thank us for a good nights sleep because we havent seen one of those in 6 years.

Grab yourself a coffee, tea, wine, protein shake whatever floats your boat really and have a read of our top 7 trends of 2023 for kids rooms.

Lets kick it off!

1. FULL WALLPAPER

Ta-da! This year we will be seeing a huge rise in FULL WALL wallpaper ( alas we bid adue to the DIY painted rainbow murals of 2019, you will not be forgotten )

This year we'll be seeing more of the kind of wallpaper your great grandmother would have put up in every room in the home. The kind that goes from floor to ceiling and has you saying "wow" when you walk into a room.

Wether its dainty cottage like floral wallpaper, resort style palm trees or geometric shapes it doesnt really matter! if you want an easy and all round approach to styling a wall jump on the wallpaper train in 2023.

2. 70s colour revival

2022 was all about the comeback of the 90s and we can still see lots of that in the style coming through to 2023, but theres another decade slowly making its way back into our lives.. the 70s is back baby!

Maybe its Ashton Kutcher & Mila Kunis's cameo in that 90s show that has us looking towards the the groovy individualistic and colourful style of that 70s show but either way we are here for it!

Think colour, the clashing of patterns, mid century wooden furniture and a groovy quirky aesthetic.

Use a 70s style sideboard as a cupboard to store toys in the playroom, or revamp an old dresser for the nursery and pair with a mid century cot, bold florals and patterns, pair some denim in if you want to really be adventurous and dont be shy with the colour either.

Its groovy baby! and your kids will love it too

3. Cottage Inspired Furniture & Decor

If you havent heard of the cottage core aesthetic you may have seen it on your screens.

Usually in beautiful whimsical country style images, videos of baking bread, picking flowers or tending to farm duties. Cottage core is basically a laid back aesthetic that draws upon countryside and vintage charm.

This year we will be seeing a rise in cottage inspired bedrooms and nurseries, rooms that bring that calm laidback and whimsical nature of cottage core to childrens spaces, getting back to the roots of living whilst creating whimsical magical feeling spaces.

Dainty florals will be huge wether its bedding, wallpaper or decor. Wooden or metal vintage inspired furniture, the kind you would likely find in an old english cottage in the countryside. Fairies, toadstools, Geese, farmhouse and heritage decor and toys like barns and dollshouses.

4. Persian Rugs

Persian rugs...the rug that never goes out of style. This year we will be seeing more persian inspired rugs making it into kids rooms and adding both a laidback and sophisticated charm to the space.

Timeless, classic and available in so many different colours and aesthetics, wether you are going for a traditional look or a modernised transitional look, less colour or more colour there is a persian rug for you.

We are seeing more and more the notion of "transitional spaces" meaning a room that isnt filled with items that will just be used for the first year in life, but rather purchasing quality pieces that can be used through the years as your childs room will change from a nursery to a bedroom.

A persian rug takes the place of a childish rug that maye be "cute" for the first year of life but will soon be outgrown by your child.

We send all of our love to the brave women in Iran right now fighting each day for their basic rights and freedoms.

5. Stripes

In 2022 it was all about the squares, gingham walls, gingham clothing, gingham bedding gingham everything. Im pretty sure somewhere in there some cafes were even serving gingham toast... well this year the stripes are back! big stripes little stripes we dont discriminate!

Stripes are a perfect gender neutral option too when decorating, so if you are keeping baby's gender a secret this trend could be for you!

Find striped wallpaper or have a go yourself ( with the help of youtube of course ) at painting some beautiful stripes onto your childrens nursery, bedroom or playroom walls.

Play with colours like soft beige, soft yellow, or pastel blues/pinks to create an underated look or if you want to go bold the bunnings paint aisle is your oyster!

6. Raw Wood + Beige is the new neutral

Neutral nurseries, some LOVE them and some hate them.. Wether you love the calm that a neutral space gives or you cant stand the thought of not injecting a room with some sort of colour you cant deny that its been a huge look over the years, and its not going to leave.

Each year the "neutral nursery" trend changes a little, some years its been earthy colours like brown and sand tones, other years its been all white. THIS year its going to be about the marriage between the earthy look of raw woods and beige tones in a minimal inspired space.

Raw woods + beige create a "soft" feeling in a room and they can be combined with all sorts of other materials like rattan, fabric, fur or leather to create the look.

This can even mean using your wooden floors to your advantage rather than covering them up. Try pairing wooden furniture or floors with a neutral but cozy feeling rug, warmer beige tone walls and neutral decor, to create this soft look, add wooden hook racks or shelves to the walls more extra effect.

7. Study/Reading Nooks

Its the year of functionality and we are going to be seeing it in kids rooms. Over the past few years we have seen toys, books and study items be removed from the bedroom and placed in what many of us know as a "playroom". Some love a playroom (especially if you can close the door and forget about the mess within) but others feel like its just another room to tidy.

This year it doesnt matter where you place books or study material, wether its in the bedroom, nursery or playroom we will be seeing a rise in dedicated spaces made for those quiet moments that are spent off screens and in books or paper.

We will be seeing the comeback of the "reading nook" which is a dedicated space in the nursery or bedroom filled with beautiful books and comfy cushions so you and your little one can enjoy some quiet time throughout the day or night.

We will also be seeing more desks and furniture dedicated to learning.

A reading nook or study nook can not only be a great place for your child to learn something but can also be a huge eye-catcher and fun space to style for your child with the perfect furniture, decor and accesories to complete their little haven.
